Abstract
The Act provides rules relative to the production, marketing, import and export of seeds for arable and horticultural crops. The purpose of the Act is to maintain a high quality crop production by promoting the availability and use of seeds that are of high quality and suitable for growing conditions in Finland. The Act also provides for the collection of the necessary information on the seed. The Act also provides rules relative to genetically modified seed. Packaging of seed for commercial purposes requires a permission of the Control Centre for Plant Production. Traders in seed shall register with the Centre, which shall also be responsible for the certification of seed.
