Abstract
This Act makes provision for measures to prevent the spreading of diseases affecting animals in Malawi.
The Minister may declare any creature to be an animal and any animal disease a disease for purposes of this Act. The Minister, the Chief Veterinary Officer or any other authorized person may declare any area within Malawi to be an infected area and specified provisions of this Act shall apply to such area. The Minister may also: place restrictions on the importation or exportation of animals, establish quarantine stations and make rules for purposes of this Act. Other provisions of this Act concern, among other things, slaughter of animals ordered by a veterinary officer, examination of animals and other inspections, seizure of stray animals and measures regarding dangerous dogs.
