Abstract
This Federal Law establishes status and legal foundations of internal waters, territorial sea and contiguous zone of the Russian Federation, including the rights of the Russian Federation within its internal waters, territorial sea and contiguous zone and the modalities of their application in accordance the Russian Constitution, universally recognized principles and norms of international law and international agreements of the Russian Federation and Federal Laws. The document consists of VII Chapters that contain 43 Articles. Chapter I lays down the general provisions. Chapter II establishes the legal foundations for the functioning of seaports, internal waters and territorial sea. Chapter III concerns contiguous zone. Chapter IV deals with marine scientific research within internal waters and territorial sea. Chapter V regards protection and preservation of marine surroundings and natural resources of internal waters and territorial sea. Chapter VI regards the modalities of carrying out the provisions of this Federal Law. Chapter VII lays down the conclusive provisions.
