Abstract
This Act lays down rules relative to the registration of ships in Antigua and Barbuda and provides for matters relative to navigation by Antigua and Barbuda ships, the prevention of pollution by ships, the liability for pollution and various other matters relative to ownership and other rights on ships, enforcement and administration of provisions of this Act. The Act consists of 292 sections divided into 13 Parts.
The Act shall apply to fishing and whaling vessels. It implements provisions of international conventions, including the (amendments of) the International Convention on Civil Liability for Oil Pollution Damage of 1969 and the International Convention on the Establishment of an International Fund for Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage of 1971. The Minister shall have general powers for the administration and implementation of this Act and may appoint Registrars of Ships of Antigua and Barbuda ships. The Act also concerns marking of ships, management of ports, survey and inspection of ships and defines offences.
