Food and Feed Safety Act.

This Act establishes a legal framework to safeguard food and feed safety in Slovenia, aligned with both national and European Union standards. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of relevant authorities, operators, and stakeholders in managing food and feed safety across the entire supply chain, from production to consumption.
It empowers competent authorities to conduct regular inspections and enforce compliance with safety standards across food and feed operators. The Act mandates the establishment of traceability systems to allow for the tracking of food and feed products, ensuring swift identification and recall in case of contamination or safety risks.
It emphasizes the need for adequate labeling and packaging, making it mandatory for food products to carry relevant information about their safety, origin, and compliance with quality standards, as well as the handling of allergens and additives. These provisions aim to enhance consumer protection by ensuring that the public has access to accurate information on the safety and quality of the food products they consume.
The Act explicitly prohibits the placing on the market of certain substances with hormonal or thyrostatic action, as well as beta-agonists, for use in animals intended for human consumption. Consequently, it is forbidden to slaughter for human consumption any animal to which these forbidden substances were administered. To enforce these rules, veterinarians, food business operators, and feed business operators are legally required to prevent harmful consequences arising from residues of pharmacologically active substances in animals and food.The Act also includes provisions for sanctions and penalties for non-compliance, providing for fines, product recalls, and even closure of non-compliant facilities.
