Abstract
This Directive sets out rules governing the exploitation and placing on the market of: (i) waters extracted from the ground of Member States and recognized by the responsible authority of the State concerned as natural mineral waters; (ii) waters extracted from the ground of third countries, imported into the European Community and recognized as mineral waters by the responsible authority of a Member State. The Directive specifies the treatments to which such waters may be subjected, as well as the substances from which waters must be free. Further provisions regard packaging and labelling.
