Abstract
This Regulation aims at securing a high level of protection of human health by establishing rules applicable to materials and articles which, in their finished state: (a) are intended to be brought into contact with food; (b) are already in contact with food and were intended for that purpose; or (c) can reasonably be expected to be brought into contact with food or to transfer their constituents to food under normal or foreseeable conditions of use. General requirements for such materials and articles are laid down in article 3, whereas article 4 sets out special requirements for active and intelligent materials and articles. Article 15 concerns labelling; article 17 deals with traceability. Member States are required to carry out inspections and controls in order to ensure compliance with these provisions (art. 24).
