Abstract
This Law, consisting of 60 articles divided into seven Chapters, establishes the National System of wildlife protected areas management (SNUC), aimed at the protection of biodiversity and genetic resources within the national territory and waters under Brazilian jurisdiction. It specifies the criteria and requirements for the creation, installation and management of the aforesaid protected areas. This Law defines natural heritage protection (Chap. I); SNUC constitution and competencies (Chap. II); Protected area classification (Chap. III); Creation, installation and management of Protection Areas (Chap. IV); Incentives, financial assistance and Penalties (Chap. V); Biosphere reserves (Chap. VI); Final provisions (Chap. VII).
