National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control Act.

This Act establishes the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control as a body corporate and the Governing Council of the Agency. The Agency shall regulate and control the importation, exportation, manufacture and placing on the market of food, bottled water, chemicals and some other consumer items, compile and issue standard specifications and guidelines regarding matters described above undertake inspection and establish quality assurance systems, undertake registration, organize sampling and analysis, determine the suitability or otherwise of medicines, drugs, food products, cosmetics, medical devices or chemicals for human and animal use, and carry out other functions listed in section 5. The Council shall advise the Federal Government on food issues and carry out other functions listed in section 6. Powers of the Council are specified in section 7. Other provisions of this Decree concern structure of the Agency, staff, funds of the Agency and other financial matters, powers of the Agency, power of the Minister to give directives to the Agency, the dissolution of the Food and Drug Administration and Control Department of the Ministry of Health and Social Services, and regulation making powers of the Council.
