Abstract
This Regulation lays down rules on the conservation, management and exploitation of living aquatic resources. The Regulation lays down detailed provisions on protected species and habitats, fishing protected areas, restrictions concerning fishing gears and practices and minimum sizes of marine organisms. These provisions apply to the maritime waters of the Mediterranean Sea to the east of the line 5 36' W falling under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of Member States. Within the Mediterranean Sea but outside the above-mentioned waters, the Regulation lays down rules for Community fishing vessels and for nationals of Member States, without prejudice to the primary responsibility of the flag State.
