Act on commercial fishing (No. 11 of 1984).

The Act aims to ensure appropriate and biologically sound exploitation of marine fishing and applies to commercial fishery in Greenland's fishing territory, as well as to commercial fishery outside this territory. It sets regulations on vessel size requirements, total allowable catch, fishing-licence requirements based on specific criteria (vessel crew tax-status, size of vessel together with fishing gear equipment, total allowable catch and by-catch authorization upon which its fishing capacity is based). Restricted periods of fishing activities are also specified in order to observe conservational protection. Fish catch may also be subject to research by the Greenland Fishery and Environmental Research body and statistics thereof may be registered for the national fishing industry information. Local authorities are at any time free to inspect fishing vessels in order to ensure they adhere to fishing regulations and requirements.
