Abstract
This Decree-Law, composed of eight articles, introduces, in the national legal order the EC Directive No. 2004/41/CE of 21 April 2004 repealing previous legislation on foodstuff hygiene and defining rules applicable to the production and commercialization of food of animal origin. Accordingly, the Decree-Law repeals and amends all relevant national legislation.

This Decree-Law enters into force the same date of the entry into force, in the national legal system, of EC Regulations No. 852/2004 and No. 853/2004 of 29 April 2004.

This Decree-Law implements EC Directive No. 2004/41/CE of 21 April 2004 repealing previous legislation on foodstuff hygiene and defining rules applicable to the production and commercialization of food of animal origin used for human consumption. Decreto-Lei n. 111/2006: Transpõe para a ordem jurídica nacional a Directiva n.º 2004/41/CE, do Parlamento Europeu e do Conselho, de 21 de Abril, que revoga legislação relativa à higiene dos géneros alimentícios e às regras aplicáveis à produção e à comercialização de determinados produtos de origem animal destinados ao consumo humano, e altera as Portarias n.os 492/95, de 23 de Maio, e 576/93, de 4 de Junho.
