Abstract
This Regulation, laying down technical conservation measures, shall apply to the taking and landing of fishery resources occurring in the maritime waters under the sovereignty or jurisdiction of the Member States. For each of the regions or geographical areas mentioned in Annexes I to V are defined: the target species for each range of mesh size, authorized size of fish, restrictions to the use of certain types of vessels and gear, general conditions on nets and conditions for their use. Furthermore are specified restrictions to the fishing of certain marine organism, within defined geographical areas and during certain periods. Where the conservation of stocks of marine organisms calls for immediate action, the Commission may, in addition to or by way of derogation from this Regulation, adopt any measure necessary in accordance with the procedure referred to in article 48.

Entry into force notes
This Regulation shall enter into force on the seventh day following its publication in the Official Journal of the European Communities.
Notes
It shall apply from 1 January 2000, with the exception of article 32(3) and article 47, which shall apply from the date of entry into force of this Regulation.
