Abstract
This Law regulates the rational and sustainable management of inland fisheries. This kind of approach is based on scientific and professional knowledge in the field of inland ichthyology and ecology, and on specific rules to be implemented and observed, with the participation of competent authorities and execution of their tasks and duties.
This Law sets the detailed conditions and manner for the: performance of freshwater or inland fisheries on the territory if the Republic of Croatia; for monitoring of catches through the related traceability on the market, also in accordance with the Common Fisheries Policy of the European Union; data collection, surveillance and inspection; implementation of penalty provisions.
The text is divided into main 17 Chapters and 89 articles. The titles of Chapters are as follows: (I) General provisions; (II) Field of application; (III) Competent authorities; (IV) Technical measures; (V) Economic fishing; (VI) Sports fisheries; (VII) Selective fishing; (VIII) Scientific and fishing for public aquarius; (IX) Marketing of fisheries products; (X) Fishing fees and damages; (XI) Catch and monitoring data; (XII) Other prohibitions; (XIII) Fishing rights and other fishing water activities; (XIV) Administrative, immediate and inspection supervisions; (XV) Special provisions; (XVI) Penalty provisions; and (XVII) Transitional and final provisions.
This Law defines other related topics such as: division of fishing waters and their boundaries; right of access to fishing waters; institutional support in the area of freshwater fisheries; conditions for conducting commercial fishing; abolition of permits or concessions and prohibition of commercial fishing; fishery exam and other certification issues; Croatian Sport Fishing Association; fishing licenses; fishing gear and method; expert management of fish stocks; revocation of fishing rights due to a change in the purpose of the fishing zone; fish stock repopulation (article 31); Fish Stock Monitoring Programme (article 48); fishing bans; catch-and-pay system (article 54); method of inspection and manner for the performance of all types of control under the terms here stipulated.

Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette, with the exception of articles 21, 44, 46 and 47 which shall enter into force on 1 January 2021.
