Abstract
Wildlife is deemed to be an indivisible patrimony of the State. Hunting is permitted provided that it is not in contrast with the need to conserve wildlife, and does not damage agricultural production. The Act provides a list of protected species (mammals and birds) threatened with extinction (sect. 2). It regulates the type of licenses and insurance policies which persons wishing to hunt must possess and subscribe to (a rifle license for hunting, a third party civil liability insurance policy, and an insurance policy for accidents caused in the course of hunting) (sect. 12). It also establishes a system for the programmed management of hunting, to be drafted by the Regional governments for the territorial management of agriculture, woodlands and pastoral activities. The breeding of wildlife for the purpose of replenishment is regulated by the Act (sect. 17), together with the import of specific wildlife species, solely for the intention of replenishment and genetic improvement (sect. 20). The Act introduces a number of regional taxes (regional license tax) for hunting (sect. 23). A guarantee fund is also established for victims of hunting accidents (sect. 25). It also regulates taxidermy and embalming (sect. 6).
