Abstract
This Law defines the: general principles and rules of the livestock breeding sector; the conditions and the manner of keeping of livestock (live animals kept in closed and/or open areas); sustainable husbandry and animal reproduction/production; ways of breeding including concrete cattle breeding programmes; the protection of genetic variability, genetic stocks and indigenous/original species; and further determining the expert tasks and public services in the field of animal husbandry/livestock production.
This Law also stipulates the rules for inspection matters, monitoring and reporting, production and trade with breeding materials and/or animals, financing provisions and several other provisions all aimed to establish a controlled, safe and sustainable livestock sector production on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia.
Animals defied as livestock by this Law are equidae, cattle, buffaloes, pigs, sheep, goats, poultry, honey bees, as well as other types of animals which are economically useful.
This Law further defines the offences and consequential penalties (Chapter XI).
Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force eight days after its publication in the Official Gazette.
