Abstract
The Law sets out the framework for the protection of animal health and well-being according to the OIE and EU standards and the organization, functioning and financing of the veterinary service and inspectorate and protection of public health against zoonotic diseases transmitted from animals. The Law consists of the following Chapters: (I) General provisions; (II) Animals and Farms Identification and Registration Systems, III- Protection of Animal Health, IV- Animal Well-being, V- Discharging of Non-Animal Products and Environment Protection, VI- Monitoring Plan for Waste and Animal Food, VII- Veterinary Medical Products, VIII- Organization and Functioning of the Veterinary Medical Practice, IX- Public Veterinary Labs and the Veterinary Professional Eduction, X- Organization and Functions of the Veterinary Service, and XI- Final Provisions.
Animals in terms of this text are mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, fish, mollusks, crustaceans, vertebrates or invertebrates, bred by humans for commercial purposes or non-commercial or living free in nature. Furthermore, this Law lays down provisions on food safety, including transport of animals or food with animal origin; slaughtering of agricultural animals for production of food and inspection of slaughterhouses; raw materials and animal products for human consumption; maximum residue limits in animal products; veterinary certificate for meat and animal by-products; notifying the authority competent for food safety in case of occurrence of zoonoses by the regional veterinary service; and providing biosafety on farms and facilities for animal husbandry and means of transport.
