Abstract
This Law sets the objectives of agriculture policy and provides the general framework for the development of and support to agriculture and rural areas.
The main objectives of agriculture and rural development are: agricultural resource management with preservation of the environment; ensure a stable supply of safe food affordable in terms of quality and price; improve the living standards of the rural population; and strengthen competitiveness of food producers. To accomplish these objectives, the Law prescribes agricultural policy measures that include market-price policy, rural development policy, activities of public interest and social transfers to the rural population.
The Law further provides for: financial incentives to agriculture and rural development; agricultural producer organizations; quality and marking of agricultural products and food; good agricultural practice; trade in agricultural products and food; establishment of the Council for Agriculture and Rural Development; offences and penalties; etc.
