Abstract
The Act proposes to contribute towards a balanced development of fish breeding in freshwater, brackish water and marine waters.
The Act is divided into four Chapters: Purpose and Scope (Chap. I); The Obligation to Obtain a Licence (Chap. II); Miscellaneous Provisions (Chap. III); Fish farming activities in contravention with provisions of the present Act (IV); Entry Into Force, Repeal of and Amendments to Other Legislation (Chap. V).
The Act applies also to keeping or storage of live fish or shellfish (sect. 2). Authorisations for construction, equipping, expansion, acquisition, or ownership of fish farming installations shall be issued by the Department of Fisheries pursuant to section 3. Sections 4 and 5 specify exemptions to the rule of section 3. Production of salmon shall be regulated by the Department in accordance with section 6. Production quantities and geographical priorities may be prescribed. The third Chapter contains, inter alia, provisions concerning the right to re-catch, the obligation to provide information and regulation making powers of the Minister.
