Abstract
This Law provides for the protection and improvement of plant health; measures for the protection, detection, prevention of the spreading, control and eradication of harmful organisms; phytosanitary controls; requirements for the production, processing, import, storage and trade in plants and plant products; and for requirements for prescribed facilities.
The Law also envisages establishment of the national reference phytosanitary laboratory, and introduces controls based on the assessment of risk.
The Law further provides for: biological protection of plant health; funds for the implementation of plant health protection measures; rights and duties of phytosanitary and forestry inspectors; offences and penalties; etc.

Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force on the eighth day from the date of its publication in the “Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia”, while the provisions of articles 52-55 and 60-65 enter into force on 1 January 2011.
